Dear Editor,
On Wednesday morning Elaine Woodburn speaking on Radio Cumbria dismissed the decision taken by Cumbria Council to withdraw from the MRWS process because it was taken by the small number of councillors, who were members of the Cabinet.
She obviously has chosen to ignore the fact that those Cabinet members gave their fellow councillors the opportunity to express their views at a full Council meeting on 5 September 2012. The majority voiced their opposition to the proposal to move on to Stage 4. By comparison the 7 Executive Committee members from Allerdale chose not to allow their fellow councillors any opportunity to express their views.
It seems that the Leader of Copeland Council readily accepts the “Yes” vote taken by Allerdale’s Executive Committee but chooses to question the validity of the “No” vote taken by the County’s Cabinet. A blatant case of double standards?
